My Kid Just Said… #56

“I gonna take dis gwass of water an’ pour it in dat bowl of dirt. Because… ya aaaaaaalways need mud.”
-Lucas
(2013, 5 years old)

My cheeks cramped from smiling after he said this, but I kept watching with my spasmodic smirk as he happily turned dirt into mud with water, and my brow huddled up as I thought about it (because I don’t know how to ever not think when I’m not sleeping, sometimes not even then). What if that was the secret of the Universe? The answer to the purpose of life? Playing with mud.

Maybe we all just need more mud. Think about it. Not too hard though, it could just be cute kid babble. He was so happy, though.

Of course, I know life is tremendously and crushingly more complicated than just… mud. But I really feel sometimes life needs to just be as simple as mud from time to time.

  3. That is very cute. Just think about it. It’s one of his earliest understandings of a scientific concept, dirt plus water equals mud, lol. Who knows? Maybe when he’s older he’ll be a whiz at creating chemical compounds, lol. Too cute though. When you ask my son what he wants to be when he grows up, he says “I be a astronaut so I go to the moon.” He is 3 and it’s freaking adorable to hear him say that. He’s been fixated on wanting to be an astronaut for about a month now.
