Darkness – Scrabble Scribble #13

Scrabble Scribble Web Comic Darkness

Are you afraid of the dark? Well, maybe you aren’t anymore. Or maybe you are. Maybe it’s only after you watch a pea-soup-splosion like the Exorcist or some nutty mind job like The Ring. That movie had me doing heebie-jeebie leaps onto the bed for a couple months, y’know, in case some broken-nailed hand tried to claw at my poor, defenseless ankles.

When your kid can envision a full-length Michael Bay film with only a potato, a bendy straw and unlimited CGI (child generated imagery), it’s easy to understand the swirling vortex of terror they must see when you flick off of a bedroom light.

Of course, you’re there to console them, as the parent who’s survived countless episodes of being in the dark, to reassure them there’s nothing to fear. On rare occasions, this backfires.

You may tell them, “There’s nothing there, sweetie.” And they say, “If I tell her she’s not there, will she go away?” Your dismissive laugh might sound a little shaky, so you press on, “There’s no one here but us, I promise.” And then they add, “The see-through girl said my first baby will be a clown.” HHNNNNGAH! CREEPY!!! EVERYONE SLEEPS IN THE GROWN UP BED WITH ALL LAMPS AND NIGHTLIGHTS BLAZING TONIGHT!
