A truly awesome number of people have been thrilled with my son’s reactions to watching the Star Wars movies, and it’s clear to everyone that he’s a huge fan of Luke Skywalker. His emotional investment is painfully obvious when he completely lost it while the Emperor was torturing Luke in Return of the Jedi.
So. After seeing The Last Jedi myself, before him, I was more than a little curious and anxious about how he would react to Luke’s characterization and his fate in the movie. I wasn’t alone. I’ve been getting comments galore about us watching The Last Jedi, from casual inquiries to passionate pleading.
Here we are at last. The Last Jedi.
He was so quiet afterward, I knew he was a bit shaken, and processing it all in his own way. He’s two years older than when he melted down watching Return of the Jedi, so his response was more mature and thoughtful than I was expecting. He even soothed me and my broken nerd heart with his comment about Luke bing with Yoda. I hadn’t even thought of that.
I love this little guy so much. I know he’ll make an even better Star Wars fan than I ever was. And I couldn’t be happier about it.
May the Force be with you all, always!
So far we’ve watched Episodes VI – VIII and Rogue One. All of his reactions are pretty amazing. I guess we’ll do the Prequels next.
