Disney Princesses Sing In Their Native Languages

Posted under VIDEOTAPE

I’m a big fan of representing cultural depictions with as much authenticity as possible. We learn so much more and can teach our children so much better about the world if we are constantly giving opportunities to see the real deal. I think we can all agree whitewashing cultural moments and characters is bad for everyone involved. And though cartoons have been some of the worst offenders, nursery rhymes and fairytales offer some organic opportunities to learn.

This video of Disney princesses singing in their dialects is really interesting. Though it’s not complete or completely accurate, it makes me want to see what more is possible! What if we learned about other cultures from a very young age with more precise depictions?

Which princess story would you love to see in her native dialect?

My only gripe is that if Esmeralda was Roma (“gypsie”), she should be speaking Romani. /shrug
