My Kid Just Said… #48

“We should rename Arden. His new name should be Squeaky Cheeks.”
-Finn
(2014, 4.5 years old)

Coming up with Arden’s name was pretty difficult. I think choosing boys’ names is actually harder than choosing a girl’s for some reason. Not sure why exactly, but there’s so much history with a boy’s name for me. I can think of 100 names for girls. But Arden was one of the choices that stuck with us for a while before we finally landed on it.

Finn doesn’t care about any of that. He knows what’s up. He has a talent for summing everything up just right. He grabbed his brother’s cheeks and looked deep into his eyes.

And so shall he be nicknamed. Squeaky Cheeks, it is.

  • My son has all manner of nicknames. But my daughter, Mackenzie has always just been “Mackenzie”. That is, until http://youtu.be/7fNracKKjY4?t=27s happened and my son started calling her “Zeenzeen!” and she’s been Zeenzeen ever since.

Boys names are hard! Took the whole pregnancy to name our son, William. 4 years later his sister was born, she took 0.0 seconds to name, Lydia.

Lydia’s nick name happened quickly too, Chunky, due to her size. Her brother has deemed her Chunk Chunk.

  • We got Isapoo up in here. Sometimes Isa Osa (Isa bear).

I completely agree that boys’ names are much harder to arrive at than girls’ names. So much so, that I cannot even commit until I meet my babies in person. And because my husband and I couldn’t settle on one name for so long, that it became a joke — we started entertaining ridiculous names inspired by things we’d see in LA traffic just to laugh at ourselves.

Funny you should mention that… my wife’s mom did that exact thing with all of her kids. She waited and “asked them” their names. Pretty cool. And I was bombarding my wife with bad names. BECAUSE IT’S THE BEST.

We call our baby boy “boot”. He responds to it well. It started when he would lay on his back and kick up at his play station. We love it…sounds like boor, boo, booty….endless
