5 Years Ago This Very Minute…

Posted under VIDEOTAPE

I found out we were having our first baby five years ago to this very minute.

Rather than tell you about it, why don’t I show you…

I was at a staged reading of a friend’s script. We finished up and I felt this urgency from my wife, Avara. It was an energy like I needed to come home right away even though none of her actions or texts revealed what I was about to find out.

I came home and there was a present on the table. I greeted her and walked over to the bag. As soon as I touched the bag, I knew. That we were having a baby. That our lives would change. That someone special was joining us. All of it, at once.

This is a short excerpt of a video timeline I’ve been making of our family’s chronology. I wanted to share this personal moment with you because it’s important that you know my joy, our joy. Hopefully, I can share it and it will sort of be your joy, too.

Thanks for following our journey.

This was such a touching video, thank you so much for sharing it! I just want to say you’re luckier and far more blessed to have been able to experience these moments than you’ll ever realize: As a gay man who wishes someday to be a father, the path to becoming a dad won’t start as beautifully, or happen so quickly. Please cherish your sons and your wife and the love you share for them; it really is more special than you could ever know.

    Aww, beautiful!
I remember when I got that first positive test, followed by the 5 others I took…to be sure. I couldn’t believe it; I was told I would encounter fertility issues due to my past battles with anorexia. My miracle baby.

That first moment when you realise you are going to be a parent is amazing…whether it’s through pregnancy, adoption, surrogacy etc.

  • Victoria says:

I cried. I remember those moments with my kiddos. At first my reaction wasn’t exactly tears of joy more like vomit of terror!!!!

  • Jill C says:

Our first pregnancy test, in 1988 was like a chemistry set. 5 drops of this, 3 drops of that, some kind of granules or something. Shake it up in a TEST TUBE, and it came with a test tube holder that had an angled mirror at the bottom. Then go bite your nails (because you are 19 and not married – yet), for F O R T Y F I V E minutes. We played Rummy. He won.
You were pregnant if there was a circle reflected in the mirror. I don’t know how much it cost, because I was feeling so rotten he went and bought it at the drug store for us.
Still married, 26 years later, 4 kids.
