Laundry, A Parent Service Announcement

Parent Service Announcement Laundry

Maybe laundry can be loads of fun! (Yeah, even I want to punch myself in the face for that pun). Seriously though (not really seriously though), if you think of it as a game, a really simple game, that’s always the same, and seems to take forever, with no really great reward or achievement… okay it sucks. And it never stops sucking.

You could try to take up laundry origami. Not because it’s fun, but because you can make your towels into animals you can talk to while your sanity slips away. Hey! Ya can’t do that with dishes! So laundry isn’t all that bad, right? Ugh.

This has been a Parent Service Announcement.
Thank you. That is all, please carry on.

  • I remember the days when we could go days without doing laundry. Before kid. Why did I not appreciate those days? I hate the old me for whining about having to do it every few days.
Perspective is everything! Everything is relative, I suppose!
I am still in denial mode. I mean, I do it because adulthood…but every part of my being still screams out that it’s so wrong haha. I hope I reach a level of acceptance soon! It’s only been 2 years and 2 months 😛

I detest laundry… That’s why my DH does it for me. I am a lucky gal! Only took me 20 years to train him! Excuse me, I need a drink….

  • Andi says:

I feel your pain…about dishes. I hate every second of dishes for the same reasons you hate laundry. For some reason, laundry seems like the lesser evil in my house, so it is always done. This, in spite of having a twelve week old. The dishes are a whole different story. Good luck!

  • Bex says:

add cloth diapers into the mix and HOOBOY! But my little one “helps out” with the folding and it’s all worth it in the end. We get a lot of cute pictures that way.

  • ALKD says:

I wish I could buy this as a poster to frame next to the washer & dryer! Our hampers overflow in the blink of an eye. I knew going in that I’d need to do a lot of laundry for our little one… but some days I go through more outfits than the lil dude does. He’s got great aim.

  • Amanda says:

I gave up folding. It just wasn’t worth the effort, anymore.

My older two are 6 and 3. When they pick out their clothes in the morning, they unfold absolutely everything so that they can see what it is.

Plus, none of it wrinkles. We’re just not fancy enough to own “wrinkleable” clothing.

So now, I sort it into a basket for each kid. They shove it into their picture-labeled drawers, and everyone is happy……

Except for my mother, but she’ll get over it.

    • Mel says:

If my mother doesn’t like the way I do something in my house, I ask* her to do her way, or shut up about it.

*not out loud, in my head. Apparently you’re never too old for a smack in the mouth

    • Caitlin says:

I was totally thinking that it’s a good thing we aren’t fancy enough to own wrinkleable clothing! Well said.

  • jennifer says:

Ok. You are going to send me on a tirade of swearing again. I will refrain.

ps. I fucking hate laundry http://oururbanplayground.com/2012/09/the-pile/

  • Caitlin says:

I washed the laundry, put it on the bed to fold, then did ten million other things instead. It is now in a pile on the floor at the foot of the bed. Does it still count as clean? Fate and a black hole combined is a great description!

Just came back from laundry three hours ago with baby in the stroller and laundry stuffed under or hanging on the side. I had to walk 15 minutes tp the laundromat, after going down stairs with the whole package, because living on the second floor without elevator,( i have beautiful muscles in my arms and back, need ibuprofene, now). A good point, the weather was no too cold today. After two hours, a baby upset 5 minutes before the end of laundry, walk and climbing the stairs with the whole thing, i was home sweet home.
    I love laundry (just kidding).
