Showing Another Side…

We all play various roles in our lives. Some of us reveal sides of ourselves to each other while we keep others hidden from view. This is never more true than with our children, right?

I’ve decided to let you see of a side of me that I don’t show to many people…

I partnered with Disneyland to show you how I approach my life. The more serious I become, the less I am able to bring everything that I am to parenting and living my life.

Sometimes, I look at myself in the mirror and I don’t recognize the person I see. Sure, I’ve grown older but my face doesn’t reflect the age I think I am. I’ve earned my lines and my creases. I am thankful for my experience. I am not my chronological age.

Finn sees a man where a boy once stood. He believes in the stability of a figure he knows as his father. The truth is I am a boy who grew up and still tends toward a certain spirited play. There is great power in exuberance and imagination. My job is to balance my play and my dedication to working hard. I can still show my son the need for a diligent life while playing in the clouds.

And that is my #DisneySide. I am the boy who would never grow up and with the aid of my fairy partner-in-crime, I will always be childish about my endeavors.

Disclosure: Disney decided to let me go crazy in their park for a day and film it. They paid me to make this video, which is kind of insane.

Adorable video. I loved it! Yes to those who grow up but still have that childish creative side in them πŸ™‚ You are never too old to dream and have fun!! Thanks for sharing this beautiful video and reminding us to never stop dreaming and enjoying!

While there are definitely aspects to parenting that are serious, I think it is extremely healthy to maintain a child-like view of the world. Life is complicated. Sometimes being simple is the answer. Love. Laugh. Share. Help others. Speak kindly. Treat others the way you would want to be treated.

My husband and I are surviving parenting with a spirit of laughter and fun being prominent in our home. While there is definitely time for discipline, sometimes the tendency is to major too much on the minors, and life just passes us by!

We have two teenage boys and a three-year-old daughter and our life is busy, insane and hilarious!

Sometimes we all need to just lighten up a bit!

  • That was fun Charlie. But damn you for once again inviting the sand throwing ninjas while I watched this video. Was not tearing up. Ninjas.

  • This is so great, Charlie. I have been longing for the age where my boys are old enough to take to Disneyland!

Came over here from Mike Adamick.
Apparently, it’s all about the hats, eh? This is the first year that DH and I have not gotten Disneyland Passes. We did get to go to a press event a few months ago. It’s eerie to have the whole place to yourself.

  • Gah! That was SO good. Thanks for making me cry this morning! πŸ˜‰

  • Love it! I still remember standing in line waiting for the Monsters U ID badges at DisneySMMoms and watching you make faces at the camera. πŸ˜‰

You made me cry!!! I am the biggest kid/mom of three and lost my job in in june. This video reminded me that even though things are super difficult , there’s still te to have fun making memories with those you love most.

  • LOVE THIS! So very much like my husband (and me too!)! Our kids are 21 & 19 now but we are still kids at heart and can’t wait to someday take our grandkids to Disney. In the meantime, I so want a Disney trip right now! Still smiling about our last trip to Disney World a couple of years ago. The Magic Kingdom stayed open until 3am one night and my teenage son and I had the BEST time ever playing in the park and especially riding the Haunted Mansion ride by ourselves at 3am.

    Great video, Charlie!

In the still pic you look like Clark Kent.

  • Emma says:

Makes me sad that in all of my 42 years, I have never been to Disney

  • Miguel says:

It was long before my 9 mo was born when I had the chance to visit Orlando and the NASA while a business trip to the US. I’d dreamed of being an astronaut since I can remember and, miles away from where everything happened in my hometown in Spain, I read and learnt a lot about Mercury, Gemini and Apollo, then the Space Shuttle… Thanks in no small part to my father, who is an enthusiast of the space career, I knew who Al Shepard, Jim Lovell or Michael Collins were and what they did, while my peer at school struggled with the Kings of the Goths and Visigoths.

Internally, I almost cryed when i saw a real Saturn V rocket at the Kennedy Space Center, all grown up. Externally, I sported that true smile of satisfaction that you show in the video.

Now I’m now looking forward to the moment when I can share all those childhood moments with my son, and show my fascination in that amazing place. He will likely see a different person from the day to day, well suited dad that works long hours and seems so serious.

Thank you for showing your other side.

  • That was a fun video. Feel the same way about Disney.

  • Jo says:

Hehe… I refuse to grow up, sounds like no fun to me… πŸ˜‰ Why do that when I can be ME

  • LOVE this Charlie – I agree, keeping our #DisneySide makes us all better parents! πŸ˜‰
