Parenterms Pajdrama Pajama Drama

Parents know: you can lead a horse* to water**, but you can’t make them drink***.

* kid
** bed
*** sleep

Trying to saddle up the stubborn little pony that is your child with pajamas is occasionally only a little bit less impossible than getting them to close their eyes and go to “for reals” sleep. Trying to dress or undress them with the bucking and rearing of pajdrama certainly qualifies as some form of rodeo-style personal fitness program. ::sigh:: At least you’re burning calories losing your mind.

Some nights you give up, though, and skip your evening workout and settle for a diaper or undies and raising the temperature in the home. Yeehaw.

  • My son’s an oven and so we skip the drama and go right to diapers and bedsheet most evenings. Yeeeah!

Except that he stands up and starts jumping and bouncing all over the place once he notices that he’s actually tired. >_>

[I noticed that the hassle of dressing a child against his/her will is not worth it once they learn how to undress themselves again. It’s just not worth the loss of my lifetime. *tears hair*]

Yep. There’s definitely that point when a parent starts calculating the effort of one thing against the need of another. The “need” can start to melt away rapidly under such an evaluation. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Laurie says:

If I have learned anything from Convos with my 2 year old, its that its hard to dress your kids! The pants episodes speak very highly to that! I imagine PJs are no different!

  • Nickol says:

But they like to wear the licensed character pajamas during the day, to church and other social functions where people see them. *sigh* If they look and smell clean I’m doing my job, so I guess it’s ok.

    • Andy says:

My boys all rocked the day-jamas when they were young. We never had a problem with this, and the people we encountered were always amused or delighted, and parents ALL totally understood.

  • Cobacrtr says:

Oh, how this made me laugh!! My 4-yr-old son has no issues getting undressed, but ask him to put something ON and he acts like we’ve told him to do geometry. How he can figure out how to turn the Xbox on, but NOT get his noggin through a shirt’s head hole, is beyond me!

    • Andy says:

LOL! My youngest will freak the eff out about the noggin-head-hole part and then the second it’s through be instantaneously calm, as if he’d never been yelling and flailing. It’s too cute for it to be alarming or upsetting in any way.

  • Jo says:

Yes Gawd forbid you try to put pajamas on to go to bed! It’s like pulling teeth for sobs sake! I remember the wrestling matches well…thankfully it’s been years since I’ve had to worry about that!

    • Andy says:

I know my youngest will grow out of it someday, and just knowing that makes me completely willing to experience it. It’s just a little-kid-isml that will be gone all too soon. ::sigh::

  • Celia says:

It’s already begun with my 10 month old daughter. Needless to say, she’s been rockin’ the day jammies pretty often. It started with figuring out how to pull of socks. Now she can pull off the pants. She hasn’t figured out how to get out of onsies, so WHEN I can get them on her, it’s great! ๐Ÿ˜€
we also have this problem when putting on a diaper. taking off is just fine but when it comes to a clean one, she tries to get away. ๐Ÿ˜‰
