How to Be a Dad

Daddy is Full of Shhhhh… Sugar

Posted by , under SNAPSHOTS

This image popped up in my Facebook feed. It had a single caption with only six words:

“Dave has some explaining to do…”

We think the explanation is pretty clear.

“I love you
because
you give me
sugar
all day.
Jack”

We’re now in the hangover period after Father’s Day. Jack’s dad is obviously being thrown under the bus here. But to his credit, his official reply was, “She’s got the boobs I’ve got the sugar. You play the cards (you’re) dealt.”

Sounds fair to me.

My daddy used to call kisses “sugar”, so maybe that is what Jack was referring to?

As a mom, I would give hubs “the look” right about now.. but since it’s not my kid this is adorable and really funny. My hubby is the softie at bedtime.. that’s where he racks in his points. In fact, my 7yo daughter wrote him a Father’s day note saying she loves him the most in the whole world because of his snuggles… hmmmmm.

One of the reasons I feel in love with my husband 32 years ago was hearing him say to his 8 year old son “give me some sugar”. He meant a kiss, don’t know why they called it that but it melted my heart, a man who had raised a lovely 8 year by himself and never, ever left him without some “sugar”.

Bahahaha… you work with what ya got! Hilarious! True, but still funny! :)

The phrase “Gimme some sugar” means “Give me a kiss”. It is an old Southern phrase but made it into the male mainstream by being one of MANY memorable one liners from a cult classic B movie called “Army of Darkness”. Coming from Bruce Campbell with his inflection, it is a classic.
    “Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.”

It is a very heart-warming when your kids say I love you to you. Even though you’re not a perfect father but at least to them you are a great one.
