  • Well, an alternate solution to the same problem is to attempt to surround yourself with medically-inclined folks who can at least chill you out when your kid has a sniffle and you’re thinking of taking him to the hospital.

    My mom spent 15 years in obstetrics as an R/N, so that definitely helped. My sister-in-law, on the other hand, is a vet. So, when we were attempting to have a home birth of our son (happy/sad/happy story here: http://wp.me/p12vUm-bB) she heard his heart rate running high and informed us that our son had a heart like a hyperthyric cat.

    Not as helpful, but the general knowledge she has has proven useful since then.

    In any case, having resources around like that are a bit cheaper than putting one of us through nursing school. 🙂
