Dude Time

There’s something undeniably special about it. The kind of “special” that anyone looks at, whether they have kids or not, and says to themselves, “Ohmygod! THAT is special, right there. Wow! Right!?!” Yes. Dude time.
In this crazy world with its breakneck pace, the time you get to just sit back, relax and hang out with your kid (dude or dudette) is precious. It’s a good candidate for parents’ new year resolutions lists, to decide to take more time as a parent to “stop and smell the roses,” even if they smell like beer and baby powder. Maybe especially if they smell like that, whatever the smells are in your case.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a game, or who’s winning or losing. Or if it’s SpongeBob, and who’s winning or losing. Or a tandem-snooze on a hammock in the back yard. Or cutting ice blocks out in Norway together for a World’s Strongest Man competition. It simply doesn’t matter which form Dude Time takes, as long it takes some kind of shape. And then we’re talking about something that you and your little one are probably going to remember for the rest of your lives. And I think that qualifies as being pretty crazy rad.
Happy New Year, everyone! It’s yours. And it’s your kids’. Together. Enjoy!
-Andy

Found your blog about a month ago, a true inspiration. I can only hope that in the future, people will find my blog as motivating and inspiring. Happy New Year!
Uh oh! Inspired to do what!?! We can’t be held legally liable for anything anyone is inspired to do because of this website. Ha ha! I’m kidding of course. Thanks very much for the compliment.
I have a “Dudetime” picture from when my then 2 year old, (now 25 years old) son and my husband were at some sort of event together. They were wearing their Mets shirts and holding hands. I said, “Oh my gosh! Is that adorable!” My husband said, “Yeah, I guess so. I was holding his hand to keep him from picking his nose.” Dudes.
LOL! That’s what it’s all about.
Is that a stock photo or were you watching a footy match?
We’re pregnant again, and regardless of whether I get a boy or girl, I’d imagine lots of soccer will be watched.
I wish it was one of us, but alas. Cangrats on the next one!
I totally agree. I love the quiet time at the end of the day. Curling up with the princess to watch my little pony, and then jamming on some video games or watching some Super Hero squad with the boy. nothing more special in life than those moments.
Ugh! Amazing! LOVE IT!
Our holiday this year consisted of doing a whole lot of “nothing”. We decided not to do a cross-country drive, no flights, no making plans, no looking at the clock. Lots of spending time with the Princesses Two, rolling with their schedule. Odd as it may seem, it had been a while. Tomorrow they’ll start school, but we took the week off….
The Killeen family sat on the couch today watching some movie Jon put on, don’t remember the name, but it was very nice spending that quality time with my little family
Between my neices and nephews, there isn’t much I haven’t seen of Spongebob. My son is only one, but I am sure he will love Spongebob too. I love when my hubby and son have “Dude Time” b/c it is just so stinkin’ cute. My 2 favorate boys together, it doesn’t get much better than that. I think “Dude Time” should be mandatory. Hehe. Love it!
That is undeniably one of the best father son photos haha
Totally! I’m jealous, I wish it was me and my son.
Wow love the picture and the text you wrote about dude time!
It’s for stuff like this that I can’t wait to be a dad!
Raaaaaaaaad. Go get ‘em, tiger.
Awesome photo.
My three year old son and I will sometimes sit while I play Skyrim and he cheers me on (and gives me orders like “go outside, get the dragon!” etc.) and sometimes we sit on the couch and watch his favorite cartoon or run around the house with lego ships he’s built zapping each other.
Dude time is great time fer’ sure.
Ugh! I’m jealous. I can’t really see me doing this with my 2yo while I’m playing Call of Duty Nazi Zombies. Ha ha! Not just because of the visuals of heavy-duty weaponry blowing the heads off of nightmarish undead sprinting in a savage rush at you to rip your own head off, but because I’m very animated when I play and I think the little lad might get hurt.
I gotta get Skyrim. And some belt restraints for me.
Not my child, but I used to do the same thing with my godson. A lot of the time I would have him curled up in a sling on my chest and play video games while he took a nap.
aw i love chubby baby feet!
I had a great day with my 4yo girl. We played board games the entire day. And just before she went to bed she learned to read! She started to read the bedtime story herself. I’m so proud of her!
I’m sitting next to my little one (7) watching the Hobbit, a bowl of popcorn, some soda and a beer for me and many questions to answer. Best time ever!!
Ugh. Sounds like that was perfect. ::fist bump::
