Christmas Tree… Dog???

Christmas Tree Dog

You can do something so right… that it becomes wrong. Right? But maybe it’s not wrong. Hmmmmm.

People can go crazy on the holidays. Christmas trees so tall that they bend over under a ceiling, like Shaquille O’Neal in a VW. And maybe there are some menorahs around with so much chutzpah that they can be seen from outer space. On a cloudy day.

But this is all good crazy. It’s the kind of crazy I want to curl up to and enjoy with my family. It’s the kind of crazy this world needs! It’s not commercialism or religious fervor, it’s love! Maybe we’re not always poets about expressing our sentiments, and it results in things like silly plastic figurines, huge electrical bills from illuminated decorations and heat waves dancing off our credit cards from the extravagant gift purchasing we do. But don’t we do this to say “I love you and celebrate you during a time of meaning for me” to the people we love and celebrate, during a meaningful time? STFU nay sayers! We busted our asses! We worked and earned and spent! And our love isn’t lessened because we didn’t throw half a year into doing needlepoint or braiding wicker into a sociological or spiritually significant offering! We expressed love and did what we could to say so in this age we live in.

So maybe this year someone gets a little carried away with the shopping, the egg nog, the holiday Facebook and Twitter posts, or decorating the family dog in illuminated decorations. So what? You know what, chicken butt. Happy holidays! Not just “holidays!” HAPPY holidays!

That is awesome! Something I’d be very likely to do thanks to the joys of sleep deprivation. I can hear my husband now…
